MY SPECIALTIES

SCHOOL COUNSELING

As a practicing school counselor since 2012, I am passionate about my profession.  I have extensive training and experience in school counseling in an urban setting.

ADOLESCENTS & YOUNG ADULTS

From my first mental health job in a residential treatment center for people ages 3-12 with Reactive Attachment Disorder through to school counseling, I have exclusively focused on young folx.*

RESPONSIVE SERVICES

Responsive services are an essential aspect of school counseling.  In my doctoral work I have focused on developing a robust number of quick action therapeutic techniques that align with the school setting and frequent student needs.

ASCA MODEL IMPLEMENTATION

I have lead all three of my schools through the Recognized ASCA Model Program application process and earned that designation all three times most recently as a School of Distinction.

I am also a Lead RAMP Reviewer  for ASCA and a Certified ASCA Model Trainer.

SOLUTION FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY

Solution Focused Brief Therapy is my core modality for serving young people as a school counselor.  I have taken multiple graduate level courses on this model and attended numerous trainings.

LGBTQI+ POPULATIONS

As a queer identified person, I am passionate about the LGBTQI+ population!  I have been a Genders and Sexualities Alliance mentor at each of my schools and much of my research is centered on this population.

DATA DRIVEN SCHOOL COUNSELING

Inherent in being an ASCA model driven school counselor is allowing data to drive a comprehensive school counseling program that identifies areas of need, sets goals, prepares, intervenes, assesses, reflects, and begins again.

SOMATIC PSYCHOLOGY

Somatic Psychology was a foundational tenet of my dissertation "Oppression, Liberation, and Somatic Manifestations of Trans Youth in Schools: A Phenomenological Analysis."  The impact of the body on our mental health and vice-a-versa is a passion and research priority of mine.

URBAN TRAUMA

Urban trauma exists through poverty, disparities in equity and access, street violence, and much more.  As such, working with traumatized young people has been a major focus for my practice & education.

TEEN PARENTS

The school I currently serve is a 6th-12th grade academy exclusively for pregnant and parenting teens.  As such, I have developed a significant amount of experience and knowledge into this population.
